Dr. Rakesh Srivastava
The world has progressed so much over the years. There are several advancements in every sphere as we look around. The life expectancy of people has increased owing to all these headways that mankind has been making in the field of medicine and research. All these manmade bounties that we see around, we can anchor it all to the hard work and dedication of those people who solely dedicate their lives to disrupt the existing stereotypes and work seamlessly to take leaps towards a better present and future for mankind. One such individual who holds several revered ranks in the fields of medicine and research is Dr. Rakesh K. Srivastava (Ph.D., MBA, FRSM, FRSPH), a proclaimed professor and scientist, who has several feathers added to his hat owing to his illustrious achievements and accolades. Dr. Rakesh Srivastava has carved out a niche for himself in the field of medicine through rigorous research and hard work. He has been researching various subjects namely Drug discovery and development, cancer therapy, prevention, diabetes, nutrition, stem cell, autophagy, non-coding RNA, nanotechnology, angiogenesis, metastasis, pharmacology, toxicology, biochemistry, and has been instrumental in some of the most amazing breakthroughs in these respective fields.
Dr. Srivastava Rakesh has dedicated his life and works towards the betterment of available medical know-how in order to improve upon the existing setup in the field of medicine. His eclectic nature of subjects proves his dedication to his work as he has been involved in the editing of 5 illustrious books of his field namely “Apoptosis, Cell Signaling, and Human Diseases Vol I and II”, “Stem Cells and Human Diseases”, “Nutrition, Diet and Cancer” and “Lost in Translation”. He has done a lot of substantial research in the fields of cancer, diabetes, and stem cell and these subjects are of vital importance in today’s day and age. He actively writes for a lot of online and print informative journals as well. Apart from these 5 books, Dr. Rakesh Srivastava has published more than 150 peer-reviewed scientific papers and it is a commendable number to be achieved by a single person. He has several patents attributed to his name and is an esteemed editorial board member of 15 journals pertaining to his fields of expertise. Given the imperative nature of his work, Dr. Rakesh Srivastava garners funding support from the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense US Army, Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundations, and others. His work is prodigal in all aspects and due to this fact, he holds a highly reputable position amongst his peers and contemporaries.
If we look at Dr. Rakesh Srivastava’s journey, we realize what makes him into this gigantic inspirational professor and scientist whom we all know today. Dr. Rakesh Srivastava did his M.Sc. at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada. He later pursued a Ph.D. from the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. He also obtained an MBA degree from Tulane University. He was awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD. He subsequently went on to pursue fellowship at the National Research Council, US National Academy of Sciences.
After that Dr. Rakesh Srivastava started his journey where he dedicated his life in teaching, service, and research. If we look at his professional career too, it is nothing short of inspiration as well. He began his academic career as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Maryland, Baltimore, MD. He worked as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Texas Health Science Centre at Tyler, TX. Based on his successful academic career, he was quickly promoted to the rank of full Professor at the University of Texas. He then moved to become the Tyler Endowed Professor at the Dept. of Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Therapeutics, and Medicine, University of Kansas Medical Centre, Kansas City, KS. During this time, he was regarded as the Eminent Scholar by the Kansas Bioscience Authority. He worked as a Senior Scientist at the Kansas City VA Medical Center, Kansas City, MO, and as a professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, MO. Dr. Rakesh Srivastava works as a professor at the Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center, and the Department of Genetics, Louisiana State University Health Sciences Centre, New Orleans, LA.
Let us throw some light on the list of accolades that are attributed to Dr. Srivastava’s name. He was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship from 2013-2015. He also received an A.A.I. Alumni Association award in 1980, a Merit award in B.Sc. in 1981, and a National Merit Scholarship in M.Sc. A Bursary was conferred upon him by the Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada from 1988-1990. Likewise, he subsequently was awarded the Fogarty International Fellowship by the National Institutes of Health from 1994-1996. Further on he went on to receive a fellowship from the National Academy of Sciences, the USA from 1996-1999. He was awarded with a Career Development Award by the Department of Defense, US Army, Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program from 2000-2004. He was proclaimed an Eminent Scholar by the Kansas Bioscience Authority (KBA) and by the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium (LCRC) in 2009 and 2016, respectively. Furthermore, he has served in various national and international committees and has also been an advisor to several government agencies as well. He has chaired meetings and delivered keynote lectures and presentations at many national and international conferences.
Apart from being an illustrious professor and a scientist, Dr. Rakesh Srivastava also nurtures a keen interest in a wide variety of other activities as well. He is a reader and loves to read whenever he gets time. He is an avid traveler and loves to explore various cuisines and cultures. Fishing and photography are two other hobbies that he loves to indulge in.
Dr. Rakesh Srivastava is a true-blue inspiration in all respects, and we have a lot to learn from his prodigious intellect and personality.
